Friends Hideaway isn’t just a name—it’s a reflection of the people who built it. Owners Josh and Katie bring together a love for great food, small-town pride, and a commitment to creating a place where everyone feels like part of the family.

MEET JOSH
Josh was born and raised in Underwood, Iowa. He’s the son of Fran and Shari, who owned and operated Friends and The Hideaway Lounge—local staples that left a lasting impression on the community. With a lifelong passion for food and hospitality, Josh is proud to continue his family’s legacy by bringing back the spirit of the classic small-town bar and restaurant. He’s excited to create a welcoming space that reflects the heart of Underwood and its community-centered events.
MEET KATIE
Katie, originally from Carter Lake, made Underwood her home after marrying Josh in 2013. She grew up working at a family owned restaurant alongside her dad. That experience sparked a lasting love for family-owned businesses. With a degree in Human Resources and a deep appreciation for small-town living, Katie is passionate about creating meaningful experiences and giving back to the community she now calls home.
